I absolutely loved this assignment. Even though my hands are covered in paper cuts and hot glue burns, I had a great time making my outfit. This wasn't what I thought I'd be doing in the honors program, but I'm not complaining at all. It was awesome to have an excuse to try to get creative. I cannot stress how great it was to see everyone else's looks too. I'm guilty of thinking other majors are boring... but the looks my classmates created were anything but boring. I was obsessed with the pinstripe tie outfit. It reminded me of a new-age Blair Waldorf.
Below, there are photos of the show as well as the creative process. My hat and shoulder piece are made of an old purse I took apart. My shirt and shorts were thrifted, and my corset was a part of my Halloween costume. The skirt was a labor of love. It's made of cardboard from album covers and mail as well as the September issue of Vogue. It fell apart at the last minute, but I've watched enough of RuPaul's Drag Race to know that you need to turn out regardless of what happens. So, on the runway, I stepped out of the skirt to and Ru-vealed my outfit underneath.
I was inspired by the Stewardess hats in the film as well as some of David Bowie's outfits. The holes in the skirt were inspired by the bandage dress from The 5th Element. I'm not very comfortable with cutouts so I decided to incorporate them in a less revealing way.
