  Intro       The key question involved here is: at what point does one stop being human? When the mind is robotic, but the body is flesh? How much of the mind must be robotic? How does the function of the robotic aspect of the mind affect the classification? There are a multitude of factors that could influence the “human” or “machine” classification of the being as well as how one ought to be governed.   Thesis         If a being is capable of its own intelligent thoughts and possesses a brain, be it human or not, it seems wrong to apply any of Asimov's rules. If something is sentient and possesses its own means to think and act, its rules should be determined by its peers, not by those that are in a position of power simply because their existence predates the other.     My group was assigned the blue pill, and after today's debate, I have to say I would still take the blue pill. Some of the major points that were raised were the search for the truth, and the idea that it's selfish to take the blue pill; I think that argument ignores that there is some agency within the matrix, whereas in the real world unless someone frees you from your pod, you're stuck being a brain in a vat.       Furthermore, Neo was chosen to take on the agents; not everyone would be able to conceptualize what has been happening and continues to occur in the real world. Even the agents are miserable and want to go back to not knowing. Not everyone is able to handle the reality of things; I'm fairly certain my ex-boyfriend cheated on me, but I don't want to know for sure, I don't want to compare myself to someone who is inevitable prettier.   While both are stories about a human creation longing to be a real human, Pinocchio is about a misbehaving child failing his caregiver despite the unconditional love Geppetto gives him, A.I. Artificial Intelligence shifts the paradigm and tells the story of caregivers failing the child that loves them unconditionally.      Phillip K. Dick was the author of no fewer than forty novels, the majority of which were set in the genre of science fiction. Sadly, he died four months before the film Blade Runner, based on his novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?  was released and before his work was recognized on a large scale for the ground-breaking literature it is. In 1953 Dick published his first "successful" book:  The Man in the High Castle , a chilling tale of an alternate reality in which Hitler and the axis powers won WWII. He wrote this book and others while living in San Fransisco, I thought he and Allen Ginsberg or Wiliam Burroughs would have some good discussions, but I couldn't find any evidence that they'd met despite San Fransico being the pulse of the Beatnik movement.
